Texans living with a disability are entitled to the same rights, protections, and freedoms as everyone else. Texans with disabilities have made remarkable contributions to our state and society and we owe it to them to ensure our society is a welcoming and accommodating one. Mihaela is proud to support efforts for our state to become more inclusive, accessible, and anti-discriminatory towards disabled people. Mihaela supports strengthening our special education, workforce training, and job placement programs for people with disabilities and creating a better environment for people with disabilities in all aspects of our community.
During the 88th Legislative Session, Mihaela was proud to joint-author, co-author, sponsor, or co-sponsor the following bills to support the disabled community that have been signed into law:
-
HB 54: increasing the personal needs allowance for medicaid recipients who are residents of long-term care facilities.
-
HB 109: requiring big insurance companies to cover hearing aids.
-
HB 446: updating statutes with the correct terminology for intellectual disabilities and removing outdated and offensive language.
-
HB 3132: creating an optional designation on a driver's license indicating a person is deaf or hard of hearing.
-
SB 477: requiring voters with a disability to be accommodated at polling locations.
I am proud that because of my efforts The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities has named me a Legislative Champion.
